Sir Mayong

Next Board Meeting will be a different one. I will be having different seatmates. Sir Lucman and Sir Aguja have been my seatmates and teachers for the past three Execom meetings. Their terms had ended and were replaced by new ones.

I’m thankful for their contribution in my life.

Sir Mayong

Life has its amazing way of surprising us. The first time I went to Manila I shook hand with Sir Aguja when he was still a member of the Congress. He asked me “Are you a student leader?” I replied “No”. The second one, he was my roommate in Jade Vine. The third, he was my seatmate in the execom.

I learned a lot from this man. As a teacher, he does not just teach but inspires. He challenges his students to be critical and go beyond our potentials. He sees to it, amid his busy schedules, to set time for us trying to catch up and finish what’s in the syllabus.

After the discouragements and failures in the college of Engineering, I shifted to Sociology. It was in the Sociology of Education class where I had my first experience of having Sir Aguja as my teacher. I got my first 1.o in his class. It boosted my self-confidence. That was a break for me. This teacher must have seen something in me to deserve such grade.

There are people whom we meet in life and influence us in a special way and make us believe in ourselves. Sir Aguja is one and I’ll always be thankful for his contribution.

Thank you, Sir Mayong.
